Pirganj Upazila is an administrative area in Thakurgaon district in Bangladesh. Pirganj was administratively formed as a thana in 180 and on 7 November 1983 it became an upazila. There is no well-established history of naming Pirganj upazila. However, according to most, during the Sultanate period, the propagation of Islam and the idea of Islamic meditation was started in this town by the hand of Hazrat Pir Sirajuddin Auliya, a pious man of Pir Mashayekh society. After the establishment of a thana at Pirganj in 1859, it was established as an administrative unit. The present number of villages in Pirganj upazila is 16. Area 353.3 sq. km. Thakurgaon is located 20 km south of the district. Pirganj is the second largest upazila of Thakurgaon district in terms of area and population. It is located between 25.59 ‘north latitude and 88.15’ and 88.22 ‘east longitude.
